September is Almost Here!

In just a few short days September will be here! I love the beginning of fall, and there are so many great events happening in Savannah that you can experience in the cool fall breeze.

Tybee Arts Association Show and Sale- Sep 1-2, 2012

Leukemia Cup Run for Jane 5K- Sep 1, 2012

The Leukemia Cup “Run for Jane,” is a 5K Run/Walk and Kids Run held in conjunction with the 2012 St. Joseph’s/Candler Leukemia Cup Regatta Weekend of Events. It is named in honor of Dr. Jane Philbrick, who is well described by Mr. Paul Hinchey as being a, “very well-known educator here in Savannah and a strong community supporter. She was a remarkable person, a consummate professional and had a heart of gold."

The Leukemia Cup is a community coming together through a series of sporting events to help fight leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers, coordinated by the members of the Savannah Yacht Club. The Leukemia Cup Includes: 5K Run / Walk, golf, junior fishing, in-shore fishing, tennis, sailing, clay shoot, black-tie dinner and auction, and a Luau for Leukemia. The proceeds go to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Fashion's Night Out- Sep 6, 2012

Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) is an evening for shoppers to mix, mingle, and participate in premiere events that will include celebrity guests, musical performances, art installations and more! From Manhattan to Milan, Atlanta to Australia, patrons worldwide will emerge on Thursday evening, September 6, 2012 from 6pm to 11pm for the fourth annual after-hours shopping extravaganza Fashion’s Night Out. After a hugely successful pedestrian traffic-only event in downtown Savannah for more than 4000 people, the City of Savannah has earned its place alongside fashion centers like New York, Los Angeles and Chicago in celebrating this global event. Last year’s bash features eighteen countries and more than 4,500 events in the States alone. Savannah stands as one of the only approved cities for Fashions Night Out in the southeast. Other regional cities include renowned fashion Metropolitans Atlanta and Miami. Participating businesses will host workshops, featured artists, featured designers, live music, catering, complimentary makeovers, tastings and consultations during the event. You definitely don’t want to miss this great event!

Fiesta Latina- Sep 15, 2012

This event features Latin-themed music, cultural arts and food. The festival is dedicated to showcasing the vibrant blend of Latino-created music and art and the impact it has on our community and American culture. The Fiesta will feature 10 acts from Savannah, North Carolina, Florida and Texas areas.

Let it Shine!

“Let it Shine” is an exhibit and competition of Found Art, made chiefly with salvaged, unearthed and repurposed materials…trash! The children’s found art exhibit will be the result of conservation themed art workshops for area children. An accompanying juried competition will be open to local and regional artists of all ages, with cash awards presented. We want to increase awareness of the plight of the Cockspur Island Lighthouse and generate economic support that will assure its survival for future generations. Donations go to the restoration and maintenance of Cockspur Island Light House. This event is sponsored by The Friends of Cockspur Island Light House (a 501(c)(3)) and Fort Pulaski National Monument.

Enjoy a free evening of film about sea turtles, a discussion about the future of Georgia’s iconic loggerhead sea turtles, and a book signing. Watch the film “Turtle: The Incredible Journey,’’ the story of a little loggerhead turtle, as she follows in the path of her ancestors on one of the most extraordinary journeys in the natural world. Following the film, publisher and author Frank Gromling, Ocean Publishing, and Kris Williams, director of the Savannah-based Caretta, Caretta Sea Turtle Research Project, will discuss the fate of loggerheads in the southeast and answer questions.

You've been invited to Lisa and Michael's wedding and reception. Wedded bliss is not the only thing that is short-lived as the nuptials turn noxious and someone bumps off the mother-in-law.
